Over the next decade, cities will continue to grow larger and more rapidly. At the same time, new technologies are bringing about opportunities to create fully integrated management systems that will enable cities to unlock massive streams of data about their operations, and enable them to bring more value to their residents. This in turn will unlock massive opportunities for companies large and small to develop and profit from new ideas and technologies.
On February 4, the BABC, in partnership with the British Consulate in San Francisco, will host the first of their "Future Of" events for 2014: “The Future of… Cities”. The event will include an interactive panel discussion featuring high level delegates from the United Kingdom and senior representatives of local businesses, focusing on the market creation and business opportunities that future city technology will bring.
The event will enable BABC members and guests to meet with the UK delegation representing large and small businesses, academia, and city managers, which will be in San Francisco as part of a nationwide mission. During their visits to New York, Chicago and San Francisco, the delegates will be exchanging ideas, concepts and discussing the opportunities created by the technologies that will converge to enable the fully integrated management of cities; areas of interest include:
• The built environment
• Energy and smart grids
• Sustainable transportation and electric vehicles
• Climate resilience
• Big data and open data
• Smart infrastructure
• Citizen engagement and digital democracy
