The British General Election of 2015 may be a watershed for the country, with profound consequences for its party system and internal unity. This one-day conference will examine the 2015 election and its outcomes, looking at the role of candidates, issues, and the electoral laws. In particular, the conference invites discussion about the implications of the upsurge in minor party voting, the success of Scottish nationalism, and the challenges facing the Conservative government for the future of the UK's political system and the country's place in Europe.
This event is co-sponsored by the Anglo-American Studies Program at UC Berkeley, the British Politics Group and the Center for British Studies.
About the Organizer: Anglo-American Studies Program
The underlying purpose of the Anglo-American Studies Program is to widen and deepen campus interest and knowledge of British affairs and their implications for the United States. The program supports faculty and graduate student research, conducts scholarly conferences, and features an annual R. Kirk Underhill lecture at UC Berkeley by a leading figure from political or scholarly circles in the United Kingdom. In addition, the program offers the R. Kirk Underhill Graduate Fellowship.
The AASP is funded by a generous gift made in December 2012 from the Anglo-California Foundation in memory of Robert Kirk Underhill.
