Nov 3 Raphael House's Annual Fall Family Festival, Gobble & Give! (Presented by Community Member Raphael House)

For almost 10 years, our Gobble & Give family fundraiser has raised more than $300,000 to support Raphael House’s residential shelter, academic enrichment, Bridge, and children’s programs. All Gobble & Give proceeds directly help homeless families staying at Raphael House gain the resources they need to achieve stable housing and financial independence.

We celebrate our fundraising success this Saturday, November 3 at our Gobble & Give family festival, and your $275 sponsorship gives your whole family entry to enjoy fun activities like face painting, pony rides, a bouncy house, games, magicians, delicious food, lively entertainment, and more!  We look forward to seeing you there!

Nov 7 Silicon Valley Meets GDPR: A Chat with Public & Private Stakeholders (Posted by British Consulate General SF in support of The European Union and Open Austria)

Data privacy affects all of us, whether you are an entrepreneur, a tech giant, a citizen or a consumer.

Following the implementation of EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May of this year and the passage of California's Consumer Privacy Act of 2018, Washington is now exploring potential comprehensive national legislation on privacy.

This conversation is not limited to the United States and Europe as other countries take similar actions. The European Union and Open Austria invite you to join public and private stakeholders for a discussion, followed by a Q&A session on different approaches to data protection and explore the way forward.

Our panelists:
  • Andrea Jelinek, Director, European Data Protection Board
  • Cindy Cohn, Executive Director, Electronic Frontier Foundation
  • Lindsey Finch, Chief Data Privacy Officer, Salesforce
  • Chris Riley, Director of Public Policy, Mozilla
  • Mason Weisz, International Data Protection Lawyer, ZwillGen
  • Assemblymember Ed Chau, 49th state assembly district, tbc

This event is sponsored by The European Union.
We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Nov 25 Kirkin’ O’ The Tartan (Hosted by Community Partner St Andrew's Society of SF)

The pageantry of the Highlands comes to Grace Cathedral for St. Andrew’s Day as the Saint Andrew’s Society of San Francisco joins the Sunday procession at the cathedral for the First Annual Kirkin’ O’ the Tartan. St. Andrew's Society of San Francisco and BABC members, accompanied by Highland pipes, will pay tribute to their Scottish ancestors who struggled to preserve their liberties and religious freedoms.

History

Saint Andrew, an Apostle and brother of Saint Peter, was declared the Patron Saint of Scotland in 1320, and his example of charity and kindness lead Scottish settlers in North America to organize benevolent societies. The North American tradition of “kirkin” (Kirk being the Scots word for “church,” or blessing) the tartan, originated with Saint Andrew’s Society of Washington D.C., and has now spread throughout the U.S. and Canada. The original Kirkin’ was held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on April 27, 1941, to raise funds for British war relief. Society members and friends, led by a lone piper, will join the procession into the cathedral. A ceremony to bless the tartans and the families represented by the cloth follows the homily. After the recessional to the north side of the cathedral, all are welcome to join for light refreshments on the plaza

Note: Tickets and Tables are allocated closest to the stage and action, based on a first come, first served basis.

The Annual Christmas Luncheon is the BABC's flagship social event and a real highlight of the City's holiday scene.

Last year, attended by over 1000 members of the Bay Area business community, we celebrated the 54th Annual Christmas Lunch presented by CyraCom International, which was once again held at the spectacular Fairmont Hotel, atop Nob Hill. Tickets included complimentary champagne and wine at the Pre-Luncheon Play Rugby USA Champagne Reception and a sumptuous three course traditional British Christmas lunch with plenty of wine!

Guests also enjoyed some great entertainment from the Dicken's Christmas Fair Characters, live music from our friends at The Irish Pipers' Band of San Francisco, an incredible major Grand Raffle Prize Drawing and Live Auction.

Because of the generosity of our Sponsors, Donors and guests, the Christmas Lunch raised  $17,000 for Raphael House, a non-profit charity that the BABC has supported for 12 years.

This year, we are pleased to announce that Play Rugby USA will be our primary beneficiary, receiving 100% of the funds raised from the last item on offer in the Live Auction.

One of the highlights of the Annual BABC Christmas Luncheon is our Grand Raffle Prize Drawing. We have a fabulous range of luxury trips and experiences to be won by lucky ticket holders on the day. Make sure to purchase your tickets on the day!

Our thanks to all who helped make the 54th Annual Christmas Luncheon a huge success. Check out the video below produced by 2020 Productions!

Jan 30 29th Annual BABC Economic Forecast Luncheon (Presented by Squire Patton Boggs and ACCA USA)

Tickets will be made available soon.

The British-American Business Council Northern California cordially invites you to the 29th Annual BABC Economic Forecast Luncheon.

Once again, our panel of experts will discuss the state of the economy and share their forecasts on how local and global economic patterns will evolve and how they will affect your business in 2019. We will also dig into the probable outcomes of the currently strong conditions, but skittish markets, here in the US and the Bay Area, including prediction
s on the markets and the environment for IPOs and M&A exits.
  • Brexit, trade wars, U.S. sanctions on Iran, Italy’s struggle with the EU, the Chinese debt bomb, jittery stock markets, oh my!
  • On the other hand, the IMF says the global economy is on track to grow a healthy 3.7% in 2018, the same as 2017, and forecasts the same 3.7% for 2019.
  • So, happy days or will there be a recession in 2019 or 2020?
  • Are tech stocks heading for an even bigger fall?
  • What about the impact of deregulation and the volatile Trump administration?
You will no doubt have many other questions!
