Mar 23 Wireless Communications In Autonomous Driving: What It Is, Who Regulates It and Why We Care (Hosted by BABC Patron Member Squire Patton Boggs) |
In order to make autonomous vehicles fully functional they must have the capability to operate uninterrupted in the radio spectrum. With spectrum-related discussions becoming a high priority in the automotive and tech industries, our panel will discuss the importance of understanding the role of wireless communications and radio frequency spectrum in autonomous technologies.
Without access to adequate spectrum resources, many of the systems on which autonomous vehicles will rely on cannot function, including navigation (GPS), vehicle to vehicle (V2V) and vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) systems. These issues include but go well beyond the current controversial proposal before the FCC to share the spectrum allocated for V2V and V2I with unlicensed WiFi.
Speakers for this session will include Dean Brenner, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs for Qualcomm, and Dorothy Glancy, professor of law at Santa Clara University. Our panel will address issues such as:
- Government: Who are the policymakers and lawmakers that decide these issues? Who will be responsible in the new administration? What is the role of the states?
- Spectrum as a limited resource: How are these technologies regulated and by which agencies? What regulatory framework is needed to enable industry to take full advantage of the use of spectrum in autonomous technologies? What are the proposals for sharing spectrum?
- Spectrum-based technologies: What are the spectrum-based technologies related to autonomous driving?
- Safety concerns: What are the safety issues related to the use of spectrum (such as interference)?
We hope you will be able to join us!

Trello, Jet.com, Waze.... Highly visible startup M&As abound. However, for each startup that successfully completes a transaction, many more make mistakes that cost them the deal. With M&A increasingly becoming the likely outcome for most startups, what are the things that you—as a founder—need to know in order to generate acquisition interest in your company and navigate to a close?
On March 27, 2017, we're bringing in tech founders who sold their company to Shopify, Twitter, LiveNation and Rubicon Project to share their experience. Ezra Roizen, General Manager at Advsr and author of Magic Box Paradigm: A Framework for Startup Acquisitions, will moderate the panel discussion. We will discuss what to expect in a startup acquisition, how to position your startup to generate acquisition interest, ways to increase your upside, and deal-killing mistakes to avoid. We will open things up to the audience too, so bring your questions for our panelists!

Mar 29 British Expats: Tax, Financial, Retirement & Immigration Matters You Need To Know! (#expatsbabcsf) |
Whether you are new to the Bay Area or have been here a while, there are things you need to know to ensure success with your tax planning, immigration status and current and future finances. Navigating the immigration laws, establishing your credit history, understanding the taxation system, and oh, what to do with that UK pension you left behind? While these issues may seem separate, your decisions about one issue, may negatively, or positively, impact one of the other areas.
This is your chance to get your questions answered from a panel of experts in tax, immigration law, banking and UK pensions. You will also get a chance to connect with people who are in the same situation as yourself.
Join us for networking with food and wine at 6:00 pm, the panel session will start at 6:30 pm.
Some of the questions you will have answered:
- Do I have to declare my worldwide assets and/or worldwide income when I file my tax return?
- I will only stay in the US for a short period of time; can I claim some tax back when I leave?
- I want to transfer some money from Europe to my US bank account; do I have to declare something?
- How do I obtain a good credit score?
- Why is a good credit score important and what should I know that will negatively impact it?
- Now that I'm here legally, how quickly can I get a Green Card?
- Can I transfer a UK pension plan to the United States?
- What can I do with my UK Pension now I have moved?
- What are the new UK pension flexibilities introduced in 2015 and dow do they affect me.

Mar 30 Webinar: Navigating the Negotiations The countdown to Brexit starts now (Hosted by BABC Patron Member Hogan Lovells) |
Webinar: Navigating the Negotiations
The countdown to Brexit starts now
Join us for our first webinar in our new series, Navigating the Negotiations.
Taking place this Thursday, the day following the UK's planned notification under Article 50, we will be discussing the process that it will trigger.
The UK is about to embark on a journey not previously taken by any other EU Member State. The process for withdrawing from the EU is untested and there is much uncertainty about how it will run. The UK now has two years to negotiate and reach an exit deal, unless all EU Member States unanimously agree to extend this deadline.
During the webinar, members of our Brexit Taskforce will consider:
- What next for the UK and the EU?
- What are the key issues for negotiation - and will they be up for negotiation?
- What should your business be doing now?
In the meantime, find out more on our Brexit Hub, including our latest blog appraising what we know so far.
Click here to register your attendance
You will then receive a confirmation email with a link that will allow you to access the webcast on the day. |
