Discussion is growing in board rooms around the world about the impacts of generative AI. Reactions range from dystopian to optimistic as civic and technology leaders debate issues around control, the risks of misuse, and the upside benefits of higher productivity and efficiency. The 2024 Economic Forecast Luncheon will bring together leading economists and business strategists to discuss AI’s applications, its dissemination across industry, its potential risks and benefits, and the role being played by the San Francisco Bay Area.

RYAN WANG
US Economist, HSBC
Ryan Wang is a US economist for HSBC Securities, a principal line of business for HSBC Holdings plc, one of the world's largest banking and financial services organizations. He is part of a global team of over thirty economists based out of New York, London, Hong Kong, and other major financial centers.
Ryan is responsible for the bank's view of the outlook for the US economy and has two decades of experience making projections for growth, inflation, and Federal Reserve policy. Ryan has also written about issues such as the US housing market, the outlook for the labor market, fiscal policy, state and local government finances, and trade policy developments.
Ryan meets regularly with HSBC’s institutional client base, which includes central banks, money managers, hedge funds, and large corporations. According to Bloomberg, Ryan has consistently been one of the most accurate forecasters of key US economic variables such as inflation and unemployment. He has been with HSBC since 2001.

Richard leads Sales, Marketing, Customer Engineering, and Customer Success.
Previously, he established and led the Worldwide Innovation and Transformation Program at Amazon Web Services (AWS) that used methodologies inspired by Amazon’s innovation mechanisms (e.g. Working Backwards) to help customers develop and deliver new solutions on AWS. Richard also led Cisco’s Digital Capabilities organization, and before that the company’s first sales teams focused on Business Analytics and Software, and the Americas Public Sector business development group. Prior to joining Cisco, he worked in the U.K. and U.S. on foreign, technology, and innovation policy. He was the founding Policy & Research Director of Nesta (the UK’s National Endowment for Science, Technology & the Arts) and was the founding Chief Executive of Boxmind, the Oxford-based educational content, software, and services company.
A native of Lancashire, England, Richard lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife and three children. He earned his Masters of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a U.K.-U.S. Fulbright Scholar. He completed his undergraduate degree at Merton College, Oxford. He is a member of the Board of Advisers for the Friends of the British Council in the United States.
