Please join us on September 19 for the first in a series of in-depth discussions on autonomous driving led by former US Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater, who will be making introductory remarks. We are excited to announce that our panel of speakers will include Emily Castor, Director of Transportation Policy at Lyft, Jean Shiomoto, Director of the California Department of Motor Vehicles, and Tim Higgins, Reporter at the Wall Street Journal. With considerable experience addressing challenges in the autonomous driving space, our speakers will lead a discussion on: The ethical challenges of driverless cars are also pressing. Apart from the regulatory hurdles in getting these cars on the roads, our society will also grapple with fundamental ethical dilemmas driven by this technology. Recent studies predict that 71 million autonomous cars will be sold between now and 2035 with 75% of vehicles being autonomous by 2040. In January, the Obama Administration pledged nearly US $4 billion for self-driving cars, as well as additional funding for a Smart Cities initiative. This dynamic, new technology offers great potential but raises a wide array of questions and concerns that will need to be addressed before autonomous cars become a pervasive reality. Join Squire Patton Boggs for a series of roundtable and panel discussions as we explore the implications of autonomous driving across the board.
