Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the San Francisco SailGP event scheduled for May 2-3 has been canceled.
SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts said: “We are of course disappointed to cancel our event scheduled for May 2-3 in San Francisco. This decision has been made to avoid increasing the already significant risk of COVID-19. Health and safety must be the top priority across the world during this unprecedented situation and it is our responsibility to ensure we do not further the spread of this pandemic.”
All options are being explored in order to maintain a full schedule for SailGP’s second season. Further announcements will be made in due course.
Ticket purchasers for the canceled event will be automatically refunded in full no later than May 2.

Witness the world's fastest sail racing as the F50s return to compete once again for supremacy on San Francisco Bay this May 2-3, 2020. |
SailGP is the global championship that is redefining the sport of sailing. Beginning on Saturday, May 2, Teams from seven nations - including three helmed by Olympic champions - will take to U.S. waters for the first time in SailGP Season 2 with enhanced supercharged F50 catamarans predicted to break speed records over the two-day grand prix event. San Francisco SailGP will feature two-days of action-packed fleet races, with a winner-take-all match race finale between the top two boats on the afternoon on Sunday, May 3.
With sell-out crowds in 2019, tickets for shore-based viewing and official spectator boat experiences are expected to go quickly once again this year. Early bird tickets to the annual international event start at $45. Two categories of land-based tickets are available – Access and Premium – with an exclusive viewing position of San Francisco Bay on the northern shoreline of the Marina District. The ticketed area along the water’s edge east of the St. Francis Yacht Club provides a front row view of the racecourse finish line, with the F50s nearly grazing the shore at the culmination of each of the six high-speed races.
Both ticket categories offer the only opportunity to view racing from the water’s edge at the finish line. General Admission – starting at $45 during the early bird window – includes a seating area, audio commentary, and dedicated food and beverage for purchase. The enhanced Premium experience – starting at $113 until February 26 – features elevated grandstand seating and large screen with live race footage, and includes food, beer, wine and the SailGP signature cocktail.
The ticketed viewing area will also offer live pre- and post-race entertainment, including a DJ and stage presentations.
We are excited for SailGP to return to San Francisco and hope that you are able to take advantage of this opportunity. See you May 2-3 in San Francisco for the event that promises high speed, high tech and high drama!
