The UK after the EU: US Trade and the Implications of Brexit (Members Only Event)

Dr Fox is responsible for the department that leads on the UK’s trade and investment activities. A department that was set up following the aftermath of the Brexit referendum showing the importance of trade to the UK economy.

In an intimate fireside chat with Sean Randolph, President & CEO at Bay Area Council Economic Institute, Dr Fox will talk to the current Brexit negotiations, UK interests in building Free Trade Agreements with other key economies (including the US), his view on trade tariffs and why he believes the UK has much to offer by way of investment opportunities.

BIOGRAPHY:

Liam Fox was appointed Secretary of State for International Trade on 13 July 2016. He was elected as the Conservative MP for North Somerset in 1992.
Liam attended school at St Bride’s High School before studying medicine at the University of Glasgow Medical School, graduating with MB ChB degrees in 1983.

Political career
Liam held several ministerial roles in John Major’s Conservative government. He served as Constitutional Affairs Spokesman (1998-1999), Shadow Health Secretary (1999-2003), Conservative Party chairman (2003-05), Shadow Foreign Secretary (2005) and Shadow Defence Secretary (2005-10). In 2010, he was appointed Secretary of State for Defence, a position from which he resigned on 14 October 2011.

Career outside politics
Liam worked as a GP before his election to Parliament and is a former Civilian Army Medical Officer and Divisional Surgeon with St John Ambulance.

The Secretary of State has overall responsibility for the business of the department.

The Secretary of State is the Departmental lead on trade and investment promotion in the defence and security sector.
